I’ve been gathering at least 150 caches a month since February for a challenge cache in Kent. I have the numbers for October so I decided to have a Dengie Day especially as the weather forecast predicted a fine day.😀 I know that there are some clever caches over here and I am certainly going to have a decent walk. I had done a few caches on the way out of Burnham before so it would a decent walk until I reached the first unfound cache.🤔
I parked up in the High Street and at 0750 set off through the lanes to the sea wall. I walked all the way out to the Behemoth #4 out on the sea wall on the way to Bradwell and at 11 o’clock, turned back towards Burnham. I arrived back at 1340 and I hadn’t seen a single person all day. I had seen many species of wader including Curlew, Oystercatcher and Black-tailed Godwit. I‘d also spotted a Barn Owl and a pair of Black-necked Grebe.
The highlight of the day was visiting the WW2 Mine Control Tower out near Holiwell Point. I had only seen photos of this place and it was just as imposing as I had imagined.🤔 I wonder how busy this place was during the war. Imagine the troop and naval traffic that could have been viewed from this point. Could I have seen HMS Nith, a River Class destroyer, passing by on the North Sea on the way to the ports of Chatham or Rosyth? I wouldn’t have seen my father down in the radio room, more‘s the pity.
Once I got back into town, I went into a cafe for a well deserved coffee and cake. It wasn’t my favourite cafe near the Clock Tower as it has unfortunately closed done. 🙁 Checking out my fitness app, I did 39,671 steps and 26.8 km or 16 and a half miles in real money. Somehow I climbed seventeen floors going up and down the sea walls.
I had more caches on my list and drove out on the Marsh Road to enjoy myself finding the three underground caches - Going Undergound, Ye Olde Sluice Valve and Pannel’s Brook. It had been a long day and it was time for home. However I had one more on my list and that was the Celebrity Cat-lister mystery set by nathanjhunt. In fact all of the caches that I found were set by Nathan.
This one had caused me a lot of problems but I eventually put a name to all of the pictures and derived some coords. The final location was near the WWI airfield near Stow Maries. Luckily the coords and the hint were spot on. If I I had left it a few days, it would have been a resuscitator cache. Not to worry, I have a few of those and not many challenges to use them on.
