A new section of The Essex Way has been resurrected between Coopersale and Greensted Church near Ongar. As these tend to be 1/1s or 1.5/1.5s, it's just the type of series that I need to get amongst at the moment. I started early and parked up at Greensted Church for 0650.
I walked east towards Chipping Ongar picking off the two nearly resurrected caches. These were quick finds but I did spend a few minutes observing a family of Green Woodpeckers. I then did a spin and headed west retracing my steps back to the Church.
To be honest, I was making very quick time and my original estimate of 8 caches in the time that I had available was blown out of the water. I got to Toot Hill by 0810 having picked up 18 caches, all trads apart from an easy multi and puzzle. I then walked back to the car down the lanes planning my next move.
That turned out to be A Bridge Too Far and The Controversial Livingstone Files in High Ongar. I had to detour for the former due to roadworks but it was a quick find of a magn nano by a splendid old ECC bridge. What the latter was about, I have no idea. It had a number of hints that seemed to give a lot of information. However on the ground they made no sense and by a sheer stroke of luck I found the cache 32 metres from GZ. I was STF so there was creep involved here.🙁 It's now time to set off for home.☕️
Anyway a totally unexpected tally here today of 20 caches, just was the doctor ordered.
