Not such an early start today but I'm planning a day out in Southside Colchester. I'd originally thought of starting at Abberton Reservoir but three caches in Great Braxted, on the way, had caught my eye. I had a quick workout and find of the Fine Pair multi but a fail at the VS. There were two ways of working the numbers and I chose the wrong one, better luck next time though! Thank goodness, I had a quick find of the Stumped trad.😀
Now I was back on the original plan. I had a quick find of the Another Abberton Reservoir Cache trad and amazingly, I found the Layer de la Haye CM. I didn't need the coords as I'd failed here so many times. After a long search, I spotted the cunningly placed bugger. I was so pleased to strike this one off my wants list.👏
Up the road in the village, I had a second time lucky at Not Another Letter Box Cache and a fourth time lucky at the CM Abberton. This one has caused cachers a lot of trouble but a new hint will things easier. I made a detour down to Langenhoe to have a look for Electrifying situated at an Electricity sub-statio. I eventually found this so sneaky, cunning, clever cache. I'd love to have posted a photograph of it but it would give the game away.😄
Now I was in Blackheath, a southern suburb of Colchester. My phone signal was iffy here but I managed to find The Pit Stop and Spring Chicken. I lost signal completely on the way to No Spring Chicken so the info wouldn't load. I should still have gone for it as there was no hint anyway☹️
On my way to Bobsy and Pickles and Cowling, I felt that I had intruded on Army manoeuvres as I could see sentries up the path aways but luckily the trad wasn't as far as up as them. So it was a quick sign and return. I then crossed over into the west side of Friday Woods. I found some of the Cherry Tree Quick Ramble series and Knock On Wood, finishing with the clever cache at Uninhabited Island.
I had a quick find of It's Hammer Time, one of Frantica's cache, then more success at the Colchester Baptist CM. Then I was after the Southside Stroll trad series, more of Frantica's which I knew would be fun. However, I had a DNF at the first one, Fixtures & Fittings. I searched high and low but there were so many hidey holes. As it was a circular series, I thought that I would have another go later.😉
As I worked my way around, I contacted the CO letting her know what had happened at the first cache. There were so many great caches in fact I gave out quite a few faves including the one at The Home of the Parachute Regiment. Frantica came back to me - it should be there, magnetic, rhs of gate. I said that I'd have another look but I already knew what the problem was.🤔
I was running out of Iphone battery but I had enough time to explore the hidden chapel at CM Berechurch. What an unexpected find! Through the small door and an array of 17th and 18th century carved memorials were suddenly on display. The multi was based on numbers on the memorials but I couldn't read one of the higher ones so this one would have to wait for another day.☹️
Back at the car, I put some charge in the phone and then sent the attached photo to the CO. She came back with "Someone's Stolen My Cache." The wrought iron fence had been replaced and before I had got home, the cache had been archived, shame!☹️
So on the day, I found many caches that I had DNFed at before. However I found 24 caches and had one proper DNF but that wasn't my fault, it had been stolen.
