In a bid to boost my numbers this year, I will be trying to add a circular walk to my itinerary each week. There are a number of these in Kent which is handy as I want to increase my Kent numbers too. I had noted a couple of large circular walks around Edenbridge that I hadn't completed or started so I planned a day around one of those.
I started early and was in town before dawn. I was after two mysteries and I reckoned that street lighting would give me an advantage. I soon found Ivor steams through Edenbridge and its companion .....again, noting a decent cafe for later. I then drove out of town to the Letterbox 01 - JJA. I had been here before to gather info so knew that there was a decent parking place where the car would be safe for a few hours.
So off I went, branching off the road on to footpaths up to the final stage of 01. I had found 02 - 04 before so I carried on to 05, a trad. The majority of the 38 cache series were trads. I planned to do up to 18 and then cut back for the bonus before heading back to the motor. After 05, I detoured off for 02. X Marks the date mystery and then returned to the JJA to carry on to 07 which was a multi.
08 was also a multi followed by a trad. It was at 09 that I had another detour down to 03. X Marks the date. I couldn't get the hang of this particular series and this was as far as I got with it.🥴 I was coming across footpath signs for the Vanguard Way that immediately reminded me of our geocaching friend Bob, Vanguard3 RIP.
I carried on up to 13, another multi and then continued up to 18. Now this cache held the coords to the JJA Bonus and was on the mid point of the figure of eight. My plan was to cut back to the car here after picking up the Bonus. However it was only 1023 so I thought sod it let's carry on and complete the series.
19 - JJA "a little bridge" was a multi so I sorted out the coords for that and carried on. It was a bit of a slog on this section of the walk. It was very wet underfoot but at least the boots stood up to it and I didn't get wet feet.😀 I made it around the circuit to 33 - JJA, a multi in a relatively dry part. I got back to the bridge at 019 and then detoured down to the 5/2 Postlingbergbahn Letterbox Challenge. Now I doubt if I will ever get 900 letterbox caches to qualify for this one but you never know.🤔
Back at 19, I had to pass through a quagmire on a fenced section between two fields regularly used by horses. It took me ten minutes to get the mud off my boots but at least the 34 trad was adjacent. The walk back to the car took me past the 35 Letterbox and the final two trads. I was really pleased to pick up the Bonus cache and although I was a bit cream crackered, I had a good walk.😀
When I reached the car, I changed footwear and then drove down to that cafe that I'd spotted earlier for lunch. I wolfed down a steak pie, a cake and a coffee whilst deciding what else I could do with the limited time left.🤔 The SideTracked - Edenbridge multi was nearby so that was a must. I decided to drive down to the start of the JJA2 series to check on car parking for another time. I was there, I found the 01 - JJA2 trad and the 1. 2001 World Caching Oddity Challenge Cache mysyery. It really was time to head for home.😀
