It Had Almost Everything

Another trip up to North Essex and less heat expected today. I started in Aldham as I needed to find a puzzle I couldn't get last week. Then off to another replaced cache, a paddle and clamber under a bridge in Fordham and then another puzzle, Desiderata, along the Essex Way where I passed last week :-(

Moving on, I was picking up trads as well as Fordham Church working my way out to West Bergholt. I picked up a few trads in Hill House Woods plus one which was in a vintage film canister, probably worth a few bob in the right quarter!

I visited West Bergholt Church, what a gem! It was replaced in 1904 but it is magnificent! Top hat pegs, pews up top for the gentry, reformation paintings, it doesn't get better than this. There was also a cache, but this was secondary today.

I had a quick look at Great Horkesley Church and then on for another resurrected section of the Essex Way, watched by alpacas most of the way and accompanied by the smell of rotting onions!

The highlight of the day was the unexpected encounter with Daniell's Brewery in West Bergholt. I have many beer labels and even a beermat from before it was bought out in in 1952. It's a huge site and even a building remaining called The Hop Store, what a treat to come here.

So the tally, 31 mostly trads but 3 CMs including a multi, a letterbox, 2 puzzles and a couple of interesting DTs but not new ones. A much better day than last week, I didn't melt today!
