Today I went out to the Great Dunmow area today hoping to pick up some caches but it wasn't a good day all in all. I wasted a lot of time on caches that have problems but previous cachers have found them more but luck than judgement so the CO isn't doing anything. I even found a GZ that had been burnt down by arsonists.
Phone signal was poor around here and I did have to walk back some distance to get signal to enable me to get hints but even then I couldn't find the caches. In fact I had six DNFs including the one which probably went up in flames. This is the most that I've ever had.
It was very pleasant walking down the Flitch Way which is set on the track bed of the former Bishops Stortford to Braintree railway. There were some interesting caches there in some scenic locations. I found some old railway signalling ironwork on a bridge and at Bannister Green, a replica station which is an exact copy of the original.
I found 16 caches which is very disappointing for a day's outing but I did find some nice letter boxes though.
