Today, I needed to get a cache but didn’t want to go too far. However I also needed a longish walk to blow a few cobwebs away. I’d been struggling with Cazmockett’s Brains Not Brawn (BNB) Mystery series based around Hanningfield Reservoir for a few months now. I had worked up about six or seven but ideally wanted to do them all in one hit. I’d reached the conclusion that I was never going to master them all so decided that finding these five mystery caches would fit the bill for today. Here’s how it went.
I had a great walk through some Hornbeam woods finally finding Pentavesigimal and A Murder Of Crows but failing to find Diamonds Are Forever, despite a thorough search of the area. A short drive away, I had a long linear walk finding Signal Adventures and I’m Being Rotten. There were probably others along the walk had I’d been able to solve them.🙁
I wanted another one of Caz’s BNBs out in the countryside near Galleywood so took the opportunity to find a couple of trads, but failing again to find my absolute nemesis cache Dub1 near Galleywood Library.
I then had a very long walk through young vineyards down to Chain Home 22 which was based on the WW2 radar system. This was probably prompted by the nearby radar tower used by Marconi’s and recovered from the WW2 radar installation at Canewdon just after the war. This is the only unmodified tower left in the country
I needed shopping and the nearest decent supermarket was in Moulsham and it had a decent cafe! more importantly there were five more trads including the very small Widford Wanderers series. I found all these and then celebrated with coffee and cake.
It was now time for home but Caz had contacted with a bit more information on the Diamonds Are Forever mystery that I’d dipped on earlier. In the area that I’d concentrated on before, I quickly put my hands on the errant cache. However I knew that I’d picked it up before and discarded it. If only I’d turned the item over last time.☹️
