I was going back to Bessells Wood this morning to do another one of philatreywood's series and to also meet Phil to collect the stuff of mine that he'd amazingly recovered last week. I parked up at the suggested parking spot for the Hawks & Willows revisited series as dawn broke. There was a crisp frost but I was wrapped up warm. At least, the frost would harden the mud up a bit.😀
I started the morning off with Hawks & willows / Brooks "Park, Start or Finish" and then walked down the road to start the target series. I completely missed the trailhead into the woods so had to backtrack. I found #1 at 0719 and continued down the leaf strewn paths around the circuit mainly under tree cover. I was making good time as I had arranged to meet Phil at 0900 so I could collect my stuff.
I reached #11 at 0823 but then the series merged into another of philatreywood's series of trads, Brooks. I found #12/#4 and then worked my way up to #15/#1. It was around here that I saw a pair of Muntjac deer. I observed them for a while and they seemed to be used to the public. Once they got fed up with me, they disappeared and I carried on to the parking area.
I saw Phil and his dog walking down the track and we walked back to the cars. I was so pleased when Phil handed me back my stuff. We spoke for quite a while talking about local caches before the mutt became restless and we parted company. I drove down Back Lane, stopping off to visit the Back Lane TB Hotel !! and relieved it of its contents.😀 I continued on and picked up #10 Back to Back which was MIA last time. I went straight past #11 not bearing to look.🥴 It was time to look for #1 though and my, this was cunning.😀 It was time to head off for home.
